Why ClickSend

ClickSend is often the fastest way to get sending from a business account without a lot of paperwork. Founded in Perth, Western Australia in 2011, they've grown into a global gateway with a reputation for transparent pricing and support:

  • Works globally out of the box for reasonable volumes — no A2P registration required to start
  • Transparent per-country pricing listed on their site with no hidden fees
  • Good AU/NZ/UK coverage at competitive rates — solid choice if you span all three
  • Strong sales support for volume users — easy to get on the phone
  • Not the absolute cheapest anywhere, but the total-cost-of-integration is often lower because setup is fast

When to use something else: for pure AU sending, Kudosity is cheaper. For heavy US sending, Twilio with 10DLC is cheaper per message once you've done the paperwork.

Step 1 — Sign up for ClickSend

1 Create an account

Go to clicksend.com and click Sign up free. New accounts get free credit for testing (typically 25 free SMS).

2 Verify email + phone

Standard email verification then a mobile OTP. Business verification is only required for higher volumes.

3 Choose plan / credit

ClickSend is pre-paid. Load credit via card, PayPal, or bank transfer. Minimum top-up is small (~$20 AUD).

Step 2 — Get your API credentials

1 Log into the ClickSend dashboard

dashboard.clicksend.com

2 Navigate to Developers → API Credentials

You'll see your Username (usually the email you signed up with) and your API Key.

3 Copy both values

The API Key is treated as a password. Store it in a password manager. Rotate it any time from the same page if it's compromised.

Step 3 — Connect ClickSend to EziLinks

1 Open SMS > Providers in EziLinks

Click + Connect provider and choose ClickSend from the Provider dropdown.

2 Paste Username and API Key

The Username is exactly what appears in the ClickSend dashboard (usually your email). Paste the API Key from the same panel. Optionally give the credential a Label so you can tell multiple ClickSend accounts apart.

3 Set default sender ID

Alphanumeric brand ID (EZILINKS), a ClickSend-allocated number (+61...), or blank to use ClickSend's shared pool.

4 Enter rate (optional)

Set the Cost per SMS part (around 0.09 AUD for ClickSend's AU rate) and pick a currency from the dropdown (AUD / USD / GBP / NZD / EUR). Used only for pre-send cost estimates on the composer — leave blank if you don't want estimates.

5 Click Connect, then Send test SMS

EziLinks saves your encrypted credentials and the card shows Not verified. Click Send test SMS, send to your own mobile, and the pill flips to Verified.

Sender ID options

Alphanumeric brand ID

Example: EZILINKS. Up to 11 characters, letters and numbers, no spaces.

  • Works in AU, NZ, UK, EU, IN, SG and many others
  • Pre-registration recommended for deliverability. In the ClickSend dashboard under Numbers → Custom senders
  • Some AU carriers may rewrite unregistered IDs to shared numbers — register to be safe
  • NOT valid for US or Canada
  • Cannot receive replies

Dedicated phone number

Example: +61485123456. Rented from ClickSend Dashboard → Numbers.

  • Required for US and Canada
  • Enables inbound replies — STOP replies land in your ClickSend dashboard (EziLinks doesn't yet consume inbound; monitor ClickSend's SMS inbox and apply opt-outs manually in SMS → Contacts)
  • Monthly rental (varies by country)
  • Improves deliverability rates in some regions

Blank (shared number pool)

Uses ClickSend's shared number pool. Recipients see a rotating number.

  • Fine for testing, not for real sends
  • No inbound reply capture
  • Recipients often flag rotating pool numbers as spam

Delivery report webhook

EziLinks tracks each message via ClickSend's per-message custom_string field — a signed tracking token is sent on every message and echoed back on delivery reports. Nothing to configure in ClickSend Dashboard for this to work.

Optionally, you can also configure ClickSend's global DLR webhook URL to https://app.ezilinks.com/api/sms/webhook/dlr/clicksend in Dashboard → Notifications — this catches any DLRs that would otherwise be dropped due to network issues.

Sending a test message

  1. On the Providers tab, click Send test SMS on the ClickSend card
  2. Pick the country and enter your own mobile in local format, or type it with a leading +. The line under the box shows the international number that will actually be sent.
  3. Click Send test
  4. Message arrives within seconds. Watch the History tab as status updates: queuedsentdelivered

Common errors and fixes

Error What it means How to fix
INVALID_CREDENTIALS Username or API key is wrong Copy fresh values from ClickSend Dashboard → Developers → API Credentials. Username is typically your email, not a display name.
INVALID_RECIPIENT Recipient number rejected Not in E.164 format, not a valid mobile, or blocked. Note ClickSend returns this per-message even when the overall API call succeeded — EziLinks handles that correctly and only counts the failed recipient.
INVALID_SENDER Sender ID not allowed Register the alphanumeric under Numbers → Custom senders, or switch to a ClickSend-allocated number.
INSUFFICIENT_CREDIT Account balance is $0 Top up in ClickSend Dashboard → Billing.
OVER_LIMIT Daily send limit reached New accounts have modest daily caps. Contact ClickSend support to raise once you've built history.
Message stays queued DLR isn't arriving Rare with ClickSend. Check ClickSend Dashboard → History → SMS to see whether the message actually left ClickSend. If it did, confirm your EziLinks URL is publicly reachable.

Pricing notes

ClickSend publishes real-time rates at clicksend.com/au/pricing/sms. Rough guide:

  • Australia: ~$0.06–$0.09 AUD per part
  • New Zealand: ~$0.08–$0.11 AUD per part
  • UK: ~$0.04–$0.06 GBP per part
  • US: ~$0.02–$0.04 USD per part — but Twilio is cheaper if you're doing volume

Volume discounts kick in from about 1,000 messages per month upward, with negotiable rates for 50k+/mo.

Kudosity vs ClickSend (AU comparison)

For pure Australian sends, both are strong. Rules of thumb:

  • Cheapest AU rates: Kudosity typically wins by ~$0.01–$0.02 per part
  • Global reach from one account: ClickSend wins — it's a one-stop shop across many countries with published pricing
  • Fastest first-message time: ClickSend can have you sending in 5 minutes; Kudosity's business verification takes a bit longer up front
  • Alphanumeric approval: both are fast in AU (minutes to hours)
  • Support responsiveness: both good, ClickSend has slightly more accessible support for smaller customers
Consider both: connect both providers and let EziLinks pick per send. Route AU through Kudosity for lowest cost, everything else through ClickSend for simplicity. Add Twilio only when you start sending real volume to US/Canada.
